Summary

The game began with players opening nine Kaladesh booster packs each, building 60-card decks in a modified sealed Brawl format. Players revealed their commanders early, with choices that highlighted Kaladesh's energy and artifact themes. Kambal, Consul of Allocation was chosen for life drain synergy against opponents' spells, while Restoration Gearsmith focused on artifact recursion. Whirler Virtuoso leveraged energy counters to generate flying Thopter tokens, providing a steady stream of air attackers. Empyreal Voyager, a flying trampler, also gained energy counters from dealing combat damage, supporting an aggressive energy build. The initial stages involved players sorting through artifact-heavy cards and energy generators, planning to maximize synergies around energy management and artifact token creation. The presence of key cards like Inventor's Fair and Angel of Invention suggested strategies centered on artifact ramp and value generation. The game’s key turning points revolved around accumulating and spending energy counters effectively, using artifact recursion to maintain board presence, and controlling the pace with life drain effects. The likely win condition for most decks was either overwhelming opponents with artifact tokens or draining their life via Kambal’s triggers, backed by efficient energy usage and artifact synergies.

Box Battle is a series of Magic: The Gathering Youtube videos that seeks to answer two questions: what would happen if we played through every single set of Magics history and who would be named its champion at the end of it? Well, Charlie “MoistCr1tikal” “penguinz0”, Matt, Ryan, and Drew are doing exactly that, playing through some modified sealed/limited rules for the commander format, almost close to brawl. The game works like this: Open a box of magic cards that hasn’t been opened yet Each player gets an amount of cards to build a 60 card deck out of, naming a commander along the way (which can be any creature, not restricted to legendary creatures) Play a game and give points out based on placements, 3 for first, 2 for second, 1 for third, and 0 for last. Also the player that opens the most expensive card gets a point for free. Eventually we will have played through all of the sets and at the end the player with the most points will be crowned the best magic player in the world, unquestionably. Along the way we’ll laugh, we’ll cry, and maybe we will have a few guests in the mean time. Stay tuned!!
