Gameplay Insights

  • 1

Urza’s use of Narset to dig for Polymorph was a pivotal moment, signaling an imminent board reset and combo attempt.

  • 2

Kinnan’s tutoring and mana ramp showed a classic ramp-to-combo plan, but was hampered by Pithing Needle naming Prismite, disrupting mana filtering.

  • 3

Players carefully balanced information disclosure and bluffing, with Aminatou telegraphing weakness to avoid early targeting.

  • 4

The interaction involving Spellbomb and Pithing Needle created a moment of tension, as it effectively shut down a key mana filter, forcing alternative plans.

  • 5

Urza managed to assemble infinite mana with his creatures and mana artifacts but acknowledged the challenge of converting that into a win immediately.

  • 6

The early turns were marked by slow development and careful mana management, common in cEDH games where each player prepares for high-impact plays.

Summary

The game began with a cautious setup phase where players focused on ramping mana and setting up their boards. Early plays included mana filtering and the deployment of key utility creatures like Prismite and mana dorks. The Polymorph package was notably central for Urza, who used Narset to dig for the combo piece and eventually revealed Polymorph, hinting at a powerful board transformation on the horizon. However, direct casting was delayed due to mana constraints. Meanwhile, Kinnan ramped aggressively, tutoring for impactful creatures and assembling a mana base capable of large plays. Aminatou’s deck appeared midrange with Ad Nauseam synergy, focusing on card advantage and disruption, while Anje seemed to be holding back, possibly setting up for a burst of aggression or combo later.
