Gameplay Insights

  • 1

Using Wrinkle, Master of Pranks to force multiple sacrifices and life loss effectively disrupted large boards and reset the game state for the player with recursion synergies.

  • 2

Ratadrabik's strategy of reanimating key legendary creatures like Elesh Norn was pivotal to stabilizing the board and turning the tide after heavy board wipes.

  • 3

Elspeth, Sun's Champion's -3 ability was timely to clear large threats but required careful planning to mitigate losses and maximize scry and card draw benefits.

  • 4

Blanca's storm approach depended heavily on incremental damage and pumping the commander, but was ultimately vulnerable to board wipes and removal.

  • 5

The interaction between token doubling (Thrasios/Yoshimaru) and cloning effects created significant pressure but was curtailed by mass removal spells.

  • 6

Sacrificing creatures to Viscous Here and scrying with Lotho, Corrupt Sheriff provided card selection that helped maintain tempo and resource advantage.

Summary

Midgame saw significant board wipes and strategic plays that shifted momentum. Wrinkle, Master of Pranks forced each player to sacrifice creatures and lose life, dramatically thinning the board and impacting all players' resources. Elspeth, Sun's Champion was cast to destroy all creatures with power 4 or greater, further resetting the board but allowing the Ratadrabik player to capitalize on scrying and card draw that fueled their comeback. A key turning point occurred when Ratadrabik reanimated Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, using it to exert control and push through lethal damage, eliminating Jeff (Thrasios/Yoshimaru) and severely damaging Blanca. Despite Blanca's attempts to storm out and deal damage using spells like Grape Shot, the balance of power shifted in favor of Ratadrabik's resilient legends and recursion. The game highlighted the importance of timing board wipes and leveraging recursion to sustain threats amid heavy removal.
