Deck Strategies

  • Krenko, Mob Boss

    Krenko, Mob Boss

This deck focuses on generating a vast number of Goblin tokens through Krenko's ability, and using them to fuel powerful synergies and combos, such as with Skirk Prospector, Thousand-Year Elixir, and Shared Animosity.

  • Bruvac the Grandiloquent

    Bruvac the Grandiloquent

This deck aims to utilize mill strategies, forcing opponents to put cards from their library into their graveyard. This was seen when Bruvac was used in conjunction with Persistent Petitioners.

  • Rakdos, Lord of Riots

    Rakdos, Lord of Riots

This deck's strategy was not fully revealed in this game. It attempted to disrupt the board with Rakdos Charm.

  • Niv-Mizzet, Parun

    Niv-Mizzet, Parun

This deck seems to combine spellcasting synergies, drawing cards, and dealing damage with Niv-Mizzet's ability. However, its potential was hampered by the aggressive plays from the Krenko deck.

Gameplay Insights

  • 1

The overloaded Vandalblast from the Niv-Mizzet deck was a crucial play, removing a significant amount of resources from the other players.

  • 2

The Krenko deck's ability to generate an enormous number of Goblin tokens in a single turn proved game-changing, particularly when combined with Thousand-Year Elixir and Skirk Prospector to create a combo.

  • 3

Tom's casting of Rakdos Charm could have been game-ending, but the Krenko player's strategic use of Skirk Prospector saved their army, demonstrating the importance of keeping up interaction in response to opponents' plays.

  • 4

The Krenko deck's use of Siege-Gang Commander and Hobgoblin Bandit Lord to control the board and remove key creatures was a key turning point.

  • 5

The final play of Shared Animosity was the final nail in the coffin, demonstrating the explosive power of the Krenko deck when left unchecked.

Summary

The game kicked off with each player building their initial board state, with the Krenko deck taking an aggressive stance early on. However, this was met with resistance when Sam overloaded a Vandalblast, wiping the board of artifacts. Despite this setback, the Krenko deck managed to rebuild quickly and employed an impressive combo with Skirk Prospector, Thousand-Year Elixir and extra Goblin tokens to generate an enormous Goblin army. In response, Tom cast Rakdos Charm, which threatened to wipe out the Goblin army, but the Krenko player managed to keep their board alive using Skirk Prospector. Tom then finished off Krenko with a Lightning Bolt, sending him to the command zone with a high tax. Despite the loss of their commander, the Krenko deck remained a threat, taking down key creatures with Siege-Gang Commander and Hobgoblin Bandit Lord. The game ended when Krenko was recast and Shared Animosity was played, allowing the Krenko deck to swing for lethal against all opponents.
