Summary

The game featured four budget EDH decks led by Odric, Lunarch Marshal; Thromok the Insatiable; Talrand, Sky Summoner; and Fynn, the Fangbearer. Early turns saw players developing their mana bases and deploying creatures to build board presence. Thromok capitalized on sacrificing creatures to grow larger and cast multiple threats at once, including a significant moment where he used Mosswort Bridge to play a big creature for free, followed by Fires of Yavimaya to pump his team, threatening lethal damage. Odric leveraged his ability to grant multiple keywords to his creatures, boosting their combat effectiveness with first strike, vigilance, lifelink, and flying, enabling strong attacks and defense. Talrand generated multiple drake tokens through casting instants and sorceries, using blockers and tempo plays like Void Snare to control threats. Fynn applied pressure with poison counters and used creatures like Deadly Recluse and utility spells like Evolution Charm to keep opponents off balance, though he suffered from mana flood issues later in the game. The match culminated with Thromok's powerful board state and combat damage pushing through, while Odric's white weenie strategy demonstrated staying power despite some setbacks. Talrand and Fynn contributed with tempo and poison damage but eventually fell behind due to resource limitations and removal spells.

Description

Budget EDH might be one of the best variants of the format. You are still playing commander, but you are forced to try a bunch of different cards instead of the same old boring cards. I think they are better than your average preconstructed deck too!
