Gameplay Insights

  • 1

Players hesitated to draw from the salt deck due to the high risk of casting harmful spells like discarding their hand or sacrificing permanents, which created tension and strategic caution.

  • 2

The combination of Ashnod's Altar and Great Oak Behemoth allowed for powerful sacrifice and reanimation combos that could tutor and deploy multiple creatures efficiently.

  • 3

Atraxa’s proliferate ability synergized well with multiple cards that generated tokens or counters, enabling strong card draw engines and board presence.

  • 4

Rust Elemental’s upkeep cost forced its controller to sacrifice artifacts or lose life, highlighting the challenge of managing the deck’s punishing cards while maintaining a functional board.

  • 5

Board wipes like Destructive Force dramatically shifted the game state by requiring players to sacrifice lands and deal damage to creatures, underscoring the volatility of the salt deck environment.

Summary

The game featured a chaotic and unpredictable environment as players drew from a deck composed of the saltiest, most disruptive Magic cards, forcing them to cast whatever they drew for free. Early turns focused heavily on ramping mana and establishing boards with key creatures and enchantments to mitigate the chaotic effects from the salt deck. General Ferrous Rokiric’s player aimed for multicolor spells to generate powerful golem tokens, while Atraxa’s player leveraged her proliferate and lifelink abilities to stabilize and draw cards. Arcades the Strategist’s player concentrated on walls and defensive creatures, preparing for a long game with incremental value, and Marneus Calgar’s player sought aggressive board presence with double strike and tokens.

Description

We invited @BrewersKitchen from @MTGGoldfish to play Commander but instead of their normal card draw, players may draw from “The Deck”, which is composed of all the saltiest cards in the format. BUT if they do, they HAVE TO cast the card!
