Gameplay Insights

  • 1

Baal's early use of Gemstone Caverns to exile Squee provided a resilient infinite mana combo setup that was difficult to disrupt.

  • 2

The interaction between Bladewing, Moritte of the Frost, and Terror of the Peaks created a loop that repeatedly dealt damage to all opponents, showcasing clever use of the legend rule and triggers.

  • 3

David’s timely use of Mana Drain and Silence delayed opponents' combos, demonstrating the importance of interaction even against fast combo decks.

  • 4

Hélder’s use of dual commanders Cecily and Othelm to draw cards and mill opponents slowly chipped away at the board state while protecting key combo turns with Grand Abolisher.

  • 5

Baal’s second game demonstrated aggressive ramp and disruption, using Dream Halls and Dockside Extortionist to overwhelm opponents despite removal spells like Assassin’s Trophy.

  • 6

The use of Windfall by multiple players created a dynamic card advantage battle, forcing careful hand management and timely plays.

Summary

The game began with each player mulliganing once and setting up their mana base and ramp. Hélder on Cecily and Othelm aimed to assemble a combo with protection pieces like Grand Abolisher. David on Tasigur Golden Control ramped quickly into Seedborn Muse to maximize his mana and card advantage. Rodrigo on K’rrik sought to establish early board presence and prepare for combo turns, while Baal on Tiamat leveraged strong ramp and card draw to gain an early edge. Baal took a commanding lead early by exiling Squee, the Immortal with Gemstone Caverns and generating infinite mana through a Food Chain combo loop, casting multiple dragons with Tiamat and winning via Terror of the Peaks triggers that burned down opponents. In the subsequent game, Baal again started aggressively with fast mana and a Wheel of Misfortune, quickly casting Dream Halls and setting up Tiamat. Despite some disruption from David’s Assassin’s Trophy and Hélder’s pressure with Cecily and Othelm milling opponents, Baal maintained control with Dockside Extortionist and Lavinia, ultimately controlling the pace and threatening lethal damage with his dragons and infinite mana combos. Meanwhile, David utilized traditional control elements like Windfall, Vampiric Tutor, and Demonic Consultation to try to regain momentum, and Hélder pursued his combo through card draw and milling with his commanders. The game showcased fast combo execution, timely interaction, and the power of infinite mana loops to secure victory.
