Deck & Commander Strategies
Kambal, Consul of Allocation
Rachel's deck aims to tax her opponents for each action they take, slowly draining their life totals while she builds up a powerful board state. The deck also includes large finishers to close out the game once opponents' life totals are low.
Tibor and Lumia
Kenji's deck has a dual strategy. The primary game plan is to give his commander deathtouch, allowing it to wipe out opposing creatures. The secondary strategy involves generating a large number of tokens, which can be given flying to bypass his commander's damage.
Firesong and Sunspeaker
Josh's deck revolves around dealing damage with spells, which also gain him life due to his commander. He utilizes cards that take advantage of this life gain to generate further value.
Rakdos, the Showstopper
Jimmy's deck is all about flipping coins and chaos, hoping the luck of the draw goes in his favor. The deck includes a number of large demons, which can be ramped out to deal massive damage to opponents. Rakdos also helps clear the board of opponent's creatures, while keeping his own safe.
Gameplay Insights
- 1
Rachel's early Luminarch Ascension quickly became a major threat on the board. Her opponents' inability to effectively counter this threat allowed her to establish a strong board presence early in the game.
- 2
Jimmy's early Mana Crypt and Herald's Horn set him up for some powerful plays later in the game. This early ramp and cost reduction could potentially allow him to deploy his large demons earlier than expected.
- 3
Josh's use of Wayfarer's Bauble provided him with some much-needed ramp in his Boros deck, which is typically lacking in this area. This early ramp could potentially allow him to get his damage and life gain strategy online sooner.
